Welcome to the Church of Saint Leo the Great
Letter from Fr.Joseph T. Nguyen
Let me introduce myself. My name is Fr. Joseph T. Nguyen. I was born on January 29, 1977 in Gia Ray, Vietnam. In August 1990, my family and I left Vietnam to go to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, then a year later to San Leandro, California. Two months after I graduated from San Leandro High School in 1996, I went to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to begin my priestly formation. I was ordained a priest on May 20, 2005.
Five weeks after ordination, I began my priestly ministry at St. John Vianney Parish in Walnut Creek. On January 1, 2008 I moved to St. Joseph Parish – Mission San Jose in Fremont to begin my second assignment. And on September 15, 2010 I began my third assignment at the Cathedral Parish of Christ the Light. On February 24, 2015 Bishop Michael Barber appointed me Parochial Administrator of St. Leo the Great Parish in Oakland and its people. This assignment was effective July 1, 2015. I thank God every day for giving me this holy privilege to serve St. Leo Parishioners in the years to come.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting St. Leo the Great Parish and for being good stewards in time, talent and treasure over the years. May God reward you as only He can. I wish to let you know that whether you are parishioners or non-parishioners, I want you to feel most welcome at our parish and I pray to the Lord that you and your families will continue to attend Masses in our beautiful church. Our Mass times are: Monday – Friday at 12:10 pm, Saturday at 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Vigil Mass, and Sunday at 8:30 am and 11:00 am.
As the new Parochial Administrator of St. Leo’s, I hope to bring more families to the parish. However, I can’t do this without your assistance. John Lennon once said “A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.” I am open to your ideas, suggestions and participation in the growth of our parish to be what we are called to be in Christ Jesus. I look forward to working closely with you to make our parish become a place where everyone feels at home while here at St. Leo’s.
Please know that you can count on my ongoing prayers for you and your family.
